STUDENT EDUCATIONAL GOALS

To achieve the Program Mission, and recognizing the expanding role of the physical therapist, the increasing complexity of healthcare delivery, and the ever-changing health needs of society, the d传媒国产剧鈥檚 Physical Therapy Program strives to prepare graduates to be reflective practitioners who meet the following goals/objectives.

Student Educational Goal 1:     

Professionalism, Communication, and Cultural Responsiveness Graduate physical therapists who demonstrate professional behaviors, effective communication, and cultural responsiveness in the delivery of patient-centered physical therapist services within diverse healthcare and community environments. 

 

• Objective 1: 
  Graduates will demonstrate an understanding of the social drivers of health and the social, economic, legislative, demographic, environmental, and cultural factors that influence health outcomes, healthcare access, and the delivery of physical therapist services. 
• Objective 2: 
  Graduates will communicate effectively, respectfully, and professionally with patients, families, caregivers, communities, colleagues, and other stakeholders, demonstrating cultural humility and responsiveness to individual differences, values, preferences, and backgrounds.

 

Student Educational Goal 2:    

Clinical Excellence and Evidence-Informed Practice Graduate physical therapists who integrate evidence-based practice, clinical reasoning, and reflective practice to provide safe, effective, patient-centered care across the continuum of care. 

 

• Objective 1: 
  Graduates will demonstrate professional behaviors and ethical practice consistent with the core values, standards, and expectations of the physical therapy profession. 
• Objective 2: 
  Graduates will promote health, wellness, disease prevention, and health equity by assessing the need for physical therapist services and facilitating appropriate referral, consultation, and access to community resources across the lifespan. 
• Objective 3: 
  Graduates will apply the patient/client management model to perform examination, evaluation, diagnosis, prognosis, and intervention planning, utilizing clinical reasoning to develop and manage comprehensive plans of care. 
• Objective 4: 
  Graduates will collaborate effectively with patients, caregivers, communities, and members of interprofessional healthcare teams to optimize patient outcomes and healthcare delivery. 
• Objective 5: 
  Graduates will critically evaluate and integrate scientific evidence, clinical expertise, and patient values to support evidence-based decision-making and advance physical therapist practice. 

Student Educational Goal 3:    

Leadership, Professional Engagement, Lifelong Learning and Scholarship Graduate physical therapists who demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning, professional leadership, scholarly inquiry, and service to the profession and society. 

 

• Objective 1: 
  Graduates will demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and professional behaviors necessary to assume leadership, consultative, educational, administrative, and collaborative roles within healthcare, academic, and community settings. 
• Objective 2: 
  Graduates will engage in professional service, advocacy, and leadership activities that contribute to the advancement of the physical therapy profession and the health of the communities they serve. 
• Objective 3: 
  Graduates will engage in lifelong learning through self-assessment, reflective practice, and professional development to maintain and enhance competence throughout their careers. 
• Objective 4: 
  Graduates will critically evaluate, apply, and contribute to scientific evidence and scholarly activities to support evidence-based practice and advance physical therapist practice.
